Washington to Delay Start of Long-Term Care Program

Washington employers are not to be required to withhold the new long-term care tax while the state considers adjustments to the program, the office of Gov. Jay Inslee (D) said Dec. 17 in a joint statement with state legislators.

Employers that do not withhold the tax are not to incur penalties or interest while legislation that could change the implementation process is pending, the governor’s office said. Initially, employers were to be required to withhold a tax equal to 0.58% of each employee’s wages starting Jan. 1, 2022.
