West Virginia’s unemployment-taxable wage base for 2024 is $9,521, up from $9,000 in 2023, according to an official from Workforce West Virginia.
The unemployment-taxable wage base rose by the same percentage that West Virginia’s average wage increased, under state law.
Unemployment tax rates are unchanged for 2024, the official said to Bloomberg Tax. Tax rates for positive-rated employers range from 1.5% to 4.5%. Rates for negative-rated employers range from 6.5% to 8.5% and include a 1% surtax.
