Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders called on lawmakers to repeal the state’s small tax on groceries, calling it “our most regressive tax” during her 2025 State of the State address Tuesday.
Sanders, a first-term Republican, said she would work with the Legislature to eliminate the state sales tax on food to ease burdens on working families, saying “we can and we will eliminate it this session.” Arkansas has a statewide sales and use tax rate of 6.5%, but it imposes a preferential 0.125% rate on food.
