IRS Enforcement Funding Freeze

Roughly $20 billion in enforcement funding the IRS received from the Democrats’ 2022 tax-and-climate law is in jeopardy, as congressional negotiators haggle over a massive package to avert a government shutdown by the end of the week.

A draft agreement was expected over the weekend, but talks stalled.

For the IRS, Republicans inserted language in a prior short-term funding bill that would freeze the enforcement funds, a maneuver Democrats have been trying to reverse.
