Canada introduced legislation Tuesday to enact a 3% digital services tax targeting global tech giants, triggering a swift rebuke from US lawmakers.

The tax was included in a budget bill brought to Parliament by Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland, who has promised a digital services tax since 2021. Canada has been under pressure to drop the bill because of the impact it would have on US companies and global tax reform negotiations.
