The Washington, DC, Council approved a tax abatement and revenue-sharing plan for the NFL’s Washington Commanders, as part of a larger deal to replace the historic Robert F. Kennedy Stadium.
The council voted in favor of the stadium deal (B26-0288) Friday 9-3 in its first vote.
The deal offers tax breaks for rent taxes on the stadium and associated parking garages, and on parking sales and the sales tax on personal seat licenses. The bill estimates the lost revenue from these sources will be $4.4 billion over the life of the team’s 30-year lease.
