IRS Has Spent $4.4 Billion in Climate Law Funds, Watchdog Says

The IRS has used about $4.4 billion of the money Congress provided in the 2022 tax-and-climate law, though nearly half was used to supplement insufficient fiscal 2023 funding, a new report from the agency watchdog said.

The so-called Inflation Reduction Act set aside nearly $80 billion for the agency to improve aspects of its operations, from technology to enforcement. About $863 million of the sum was spent between October and December 2023, the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration reported.
