The chief judge of a federal appeals court suggested Wednesday that the government unilaterally issued a refund and then argued that the check ended a cryptocurrency-related tax case because it wanted to avoid fighting against quality lawyers.
The arguments were held in Joshua and Jessica Jarretts’ appeal of a 2021 district court ruling that their case was moot after the IRS sent them a refund check for about $4,000.
