About 255 organizations from across the country are asking the IRS to make its Direct File free tax e-filing program available nationwide after what they called a successful pilot.
The Coalition of Free and Fair Filing sent a letter Tuesday to IRS Commissioner Danny Werfel and Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen asking the agencies to expand Direct File to more states and tax situations. The organizations signing on to the letter include the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy, the Fiscal Policy Institute, Coalition on Human Needs, and other community and policy organizations.
