Multistate Group Considers Voluntary Sales Tax Audit Proposal

The Multistate Tax Commission will review a proposal for auditing companies’ sales tax compliance prospectively, with a view toward faster dispute resolution and timely, accurate tax collections for states.

At its annual meeting in Denver this week, the intergovernmental tax agency is also scheduled to consider a change to its dues structure for member states to lighten the financial burden currently imposed on California.

The audit and dues proposals are on the agenda as tax administrators from roughly half of US states discuss a range of issues aimed at boosting tax harmony and compliance across all states. ...
