We’re publishing a series of short essays this week that showcase the best parts about being a tax pro. Today’s essay is from Daniel Paulos of Proskauer Rose.
Why did you decide to pursue a career in tax, and what would you tell your younger self about the profession?
I became interested in pursuing tax law after discussing it with friends who were a few years ahead of me in law school. I was told that in order to be a successful tax lawyer, you had to be a problem solver and tackle a steep learning curve. Both of these appealed to me, and my friends were right.
As a tax lawyer, I get to problem solve on a daily basis since tax law constantly changes, as do business and commercial practices. And given how competitive the market for legal work has become, I have learned how to constantly adapt—and stay ahead of—any changes.
It’s fun to be in a profession where you are consistently challenged and constantly learning.
