In late 2017, they celebrated the enactment of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, a $2.3 trillion overhaul of corporate and personal taxes. The economy boomed the following year. On Election Day 2018, unemployment was at a low 3.7%. In the third quarter of that year, which ended weeks before the midterm elections, the US economy grew 3.5%.
