The UK is considering handing its tax authority more powers to tackle noncompliance from next year.
The government wants to announce the changes as part of the Autumn Budget this year, with an implementation date of April 2026, according to a presentation from His Majesty’s Revenue and Customs in a webinar Thursday.
“The government wishes to move forward swiftly to take action against tax advisers whose actions cause harm to the tax system and contribute to the tax gap,” according to the HMRC presentation.
