The US announced Monday it was pulling out of negotiations at the United Nations over a new global tax treaty and warned it would oppose any outcome from the talks.
Jonathan Shrier, US acting representative to the UN Economic and Social Council, told the UN’s negotiating committee that the goals of the treaty are inconsistent with US priorities and represent unwelcome overreach.
“We reject the very nature of these discussions,” Shrier said on the first day of the committee’s week-long meeting in New York.
