President Donald Trump’s upcoming State of the Union address comes at a time many Americans feel fragile. People of all political stripes are unnerved about where the country is headed. Trump is fragile, too — politically. His approval ratings are under water, including on immigration and the economy, issues that have long been GOP advantages. More Republicans are openly questioning his approach to governing. As the 2026 midterms approach, there are whispers that even the Senate is in play.
