Germany, Luxembourg Agree to More Cross-Border Teleworking Days

Germany and Luxembourg agreed Thursday to increase the number of days cross-border commuters can annually work from home without facing tax consequences in their country of residence.

Currently, commuters can spend 19 days working from another country. This has been upped to 34 and will take effect in 2024, according to a joint release.

  • The increase comes as companies and countries have concerns about how to address tax rules as teleworking continues. A European Commission official said earlier this week that EU members are unlikely to back bloc-wide tax rules.
