The UK government should overhaul the tax office to better support business growth and hold it accountable for missed targets, an accounting group said Monday.
The Treasury must develop a comprehensive tax strategy and address poor service standards at the tax office, Michael Izza, chief executive at The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, wrote in a letter to Chancellor Jeremy Hunt ahead of the UK’s Autumn Statement.
His Majesty’s Revenue and Customs faced several rounds of criticism from professional groups this year for poor service levels, especially responsiveness.
