California Extends Tax Break for Renewable Energy, Manufacturing

California lawmakers approved a bill Tuesday to expand and extend a program that offers tax breaks for renewable energy and advanced manufacturing projects, sending the measure to the governor’s desk.

The program exempts equipment used for renewable energy or advanced manufacturing projects from the state’s sales and use tax. It’s administered through the California Alternative Energy and Advanced Transportation Financing Authority.

It passed the assembly 76-0 on Monday and the state Senate gave the bill its final approval late Tuesday. The state senate initially passed the bill 39-0 in June. Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) has until Oct. 12 to sign ...
