Expedia, Orbitz Call on Nevada’s High Court to Dismiss Tax Fraud Suit

Whistleblower charges that Expedia and Orbitz evaded hundreds of millions in Nevada lodging taxes should be tossed because the case is trumped by a similar one brought by a unit of local government in federal court, attorneys for the company said in court Wednesday.

The attorneys told Nevada Supreme Court justices that state law dictates that the local government case, by Clark County, requires the whistleblowers to “step aside.” But attorneys for the two whistleblowers argued the companies’ position mischaracterizes Nevada law, and that their action came first.
