Gas Tax Hike Takes Effect in Five States This Month

Commuters will be paying more for gas in five states starting July 1.

California, Illinois, Ohio, Tennessee, and South Carolina saw a rise in gas taxes today, with increases ranging from one cent in Tennessee to 19 cents in Illinois.

  • Of the five states, California has the highest gas tax rate at 47.3 cents per gallon; South Carolina has the lowest, at 22 cents per gallon.
