A California tax lawyer who negotiated a personal cut of a sales-tax-splitting incentives deal between Best Buy Inc. and the city of Dinuba is getting his largest payouts yet as he remains under investigation for his role in arranging the deal.
Dinuba paid Robert Cendejas $2.1 million through first three quarters of 2020, bringing his total to $4.7 million since the deal took effect in 2016. His payment of $784,663 for the second quarter of 2020 was 191% more than the previous quarter and 381% more than the same quarter in 2019, thanks to the pandemic-induced e-commerce boom.
