Warner Bros. Pictures is expected to receive nearly $22 million in California tax credits for the production of the film “Space Jam 2,” starring NBA star LeBron James.

The “Space Jam” sequel is on track to generate more than $100 million in qualified spending, the California Film Commission announced Nov. 19. The estimated tax credits for the film are $21.8 million.

The commission revealed WB’s tax credits for “Space Jam 2" alongside allocations for 14 other projects, including a 20th Century Fox Film Corp. production called “Mouse Guard” that will earn the company about $10.2 million in state tax credits. The announcement comes less than four months after the commission said Warner Bros. would get more than $12.6 million in credits for the DC Comics Inc. spinoff “Birds of Prey.”

One of the commission’s goals for the expanded film and television tax credit program is to bring production jobs and spending to regions across the state of California, including locations outside the traditional Los Angeles “30-Mile Zone.”

“We’re beginning to see that happen more often and on a larger scale,” Amy Lemisch, executive director of the commission, said in Nov. 19 statement. “We’re thrilled to see Program 2.0 have such far-reaching benefits.”
