Massachusetts lawmakers will decide soon whether to make a charitable tax deduction available to residents by the end of the 2021 year, a break the governor wants included in the $48.07 billion fiscal year 2022 budget bill.
The credit was approved by voters 20 years ago but its implementation has been frozen by lawmakers each year since. Lawmakers included language to continue the deep freeze in the budget bill (H. 4002) they approved July 9. The bill also includes a sales and local tax cap workaround and a film tax credit.
