The taxation section of Michigan’s bar and a trade association of large corporations are urging the state supreme court to leave in place a ruling that allowed Nationwide units to share tax credits.
The Michigan Treasury Department—"the very agency whose mission and responsibility are the transparent and efficient administration of our state’s tax laws"—misinterprets the “well-established and widely adopted” unitary business group theory, the Michigan State Bar Taxation Section said in an amicus brief filed Thursday.
