Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers (D) vetoed a $2 billion Republican tax plan to modify income tax rates Monday, marking the GOP-dominated legislature’s latest unsuccessful attempt to implement a tax cut.
Given his prior warning that the tax plan could destabilize the state’s finances, Evers was expected to reject the bill. The reduction in the income tax rate was estimated to cost the state approximately $2.4 billion over the 2023-2025 biennium, according to a fiscal analysis from an earlier version of the bill.
