A former FBI informant who admitted to providing the agency false information that then-Vice President Joe Biden and his son, Hunter Biden, had accepted bribes was sentenced to 72 months in prison for tax evasion.
Alexander Smirnov, who asked for the minimum 48-month sentence from Judge Otis D. Wright II of the US District Court for the Central District of California, must also pay $675,500 in restitution to the IRS, the Jan. 8 judgment said. Smirnov pleaded guilty in December to creating a false and fictitious record and evading taxes on $2.1 million in income.
