The acting chief of the IRS watchdog agency steps in at a critical moment for IRS oversight as the agency begins to spend its tens of billions of dollars from the 2022 tax-and-climate law.

Heather Hill took over as acting inspector general at the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration in September after leaders said that longtime director J. Russell George would be out indefinitely following a medical emergency. Hill, who has over a decade of experience at TIGTA, announced in January that George had died.
