Schumer Says There May Be Deal on Aid by Early Next Week

“I had a constructive call with Secretary Mnuchin this morning during which he agreed to pursue bipartisan talks with the leadership of House and Senate Democrats and Republicans on interim Emergency Coronavirus Relief legislation,” Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer says in statement.

  • “There’s no reason why we can’t come to a bipartisan agreement by early next week,” he says
  • NOTE: On Thursday, Senate Democrats blocked Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s attempt to quickly pass a $250 billion boost in funds for small businesses suffering revenue losses in the pandemic
    • Schumer and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi are seeking to double the GOP’s $250 billion request for the slumping economy, including more federal aid for state and local governments and added funding for hospitals struggling to treat a crush of coronavirus patients
