UN General Assembly Passes Resolution for Tax Framework Treaty

The UN General Assembly on Friday passed a resolution in favor of creating a framework convention on international tax cooperation, the final step to move to fully adopt the measure.

Countries passed the measure in a 111-46 vote with 10 abstentions during a plenary session for a measure that will allow the UN to play a larger role in international tax policy discussions.

The vote comes exactly one month after the UN’s Economic and Financial Committee passed the same draft resolution, proposed by Nigeria, in a 125-48 vote with nine abstentions.
