Big Four Lobby SEC, Lawmakers on ESG Reporting, Audit Access

Sustainability reporting and the challenges of auditor oversight in China were among issues on which the Big Four accounting firms lobbied the federal government in the first year of the Biden administration.

The firms spent a combined $8.61 million in an effort to sway Congress and federal agencies, including the Securities and Exchange Commission, on topics ranging from infrastructure and tax policy, to postal service reform, according to their 2021 congressional lobby disclosures.

The spending by Deloitte LLP, Ernst & Young LLP, KPMG LLP and PwC LLP was down slightly from the $8.67 million they spent in 2020. ...
