California confirmed that its hourly minimum wage will rise to $16.50 effective Jan. 1, 2025, in an Aug. 1 letter from the state finance director.
The letter confirms Bloomberg Tax’s July 22 calculations.
However, Californians will vote on a ballot measure in November that could change the minimum wage law. If the ballot measure passes, the hourly minimum wage for 2025 would be $18 for employers with 26 or more employees and $17 for employers with 25 or fewer employees.
