The initial contribution rate for Maryland’s family-leave insurance program will be 0.9% for most employers and 0.45% for small employers, according to a frequently asked questions document from the state labor department.
The contribution rate was confirmed by the department in April and will apply to wages paid from Jan. 1, 2027, to Dec. 31, 2027, that do not exceed the federal Social Security wage base for 2027, according to the FAQ. The department was required to determine the contribution rate for calendar year 2027 by May 11, 2026, under a 2025 family-leave insurance law.
