Virginia will increase its minimum wage and expand minimum wage coverage to farm employees and laborers through a pair of bills signed April 9.
HB 1 will raise the hourly minimum wage to $13.75 for calendar year 2027 and to $15 for calendar year 2028. The bill provides for the state minimum wage to annually increase based on changes to the consumer price index starting Jan. 1, 2029.
The state’s current hourly minimum wage rate is $12.77.
Separately, HB 20 entitles farm laborers and employees to Virginia’s minimum wage effective Jan. 1, 2027, by removing a statutory exemption.
