Global tax talks will grind to a halt as nations—including some of the US’s closest allies—turn their full attention to the emergency created by President Donald Trump’s sweeping punitive tariffs.
Before the president announced the tariffs, some countries indicated an openness to work with the US on parts of the global tax deal that Trump and his allies in Congress find objectionable.
Now, tax practitioners say, preoccupation with tariffs will bleed into the OECD-led tax talks, making countries reluctant to negotiate a deal until the fallout from a trade war is mitigated.
