US-Chile Tax Treaty Enters Into Force After Decade Plus of Delay

A tax treaty between the US and Chile, the first new comprehensive US bilateral tax pact in over a decade, enters into force on Tuesday, the Treasury Department said.

The US informed Chile that President Joe Biden stroked his signature on the treaty and that all other necessary procedures for the treaty to enter force have now been completed, Treasury said.

Getting the treaty to the finish line ends a process dating back to 2010, but enactment moved relatively quickly this year after the US Senate approved the treaty in June and Chile’s Senate approved it in November.
