Maine’s hourly minimum wage is to rise to $12.15 from $12, effective Jan. 1, the state’s labor department said Sept. 21.
The minimum direct service wage for tipped workers and the maximum tip credit in 2021 are to equal $6.08, which is half of the minimum wage. These amounts were $6 in 2020.
Also starting Jan. 1, 2021, the minimum salary threshold to exempt workers from overtime pay is to rise to $700.97 a week and $36,450 a year, the Maine Department of Labor said in its Sept. 21 news release.
A news release from the department confirmed calculations by Bloomberg Tax calculations on Sept. 14.
Separately, final rules are adopted to implement the state’s earned paid leave law, the Department of Labor said in a Sept. 14 news release. The earned paid leave is to ensure up to 40 hours of annual paid leave for those working for employers with more than 10 employees for at least 120 days a year, except for seasonal industries, starting Jan. 1.
Frequently asked questions and answers about paid leave is available at the department’s website.
